The “unsinkable” Titanic met its fate on April 14, 1912, hitting an iceberg and sinking in the early hours of April 15, claiming around 1,500 lives. Many timepieces were recovered, but the most captivating is a golden clock from the Straus suite, where Macy’s founder Isidor Straus and his wife stayed.
Despite the surrounding wreckage, this clock remains in its original position on the fireplace, looking nearly pristine. Although its face is damaged and hard to read, “Tony Robinson’s Titanic Adventure” suggests the hands stopped between 2:04 AM, marking the last lifeboat’s departure, and 2:20 AM, when the Titanic fully submerged.
